World Hepatitis Day: GDC Pouni hosts inter- semester Essay Competition

Udhampur : Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College Pouni on Friday organized an Essay Competition on the topic, “Hepatitis can’t wait” to mark the World Hepatitis Day.
The event was held under the guidance of the College Principal Prof Rajni Bhagat to highlight the need to accelerate the fight against viral hepatitis and the importance of testing and treatment of the real people who need it. Prof. U S Liza, convener, Red Ribbon Club, conducted the event. World Hepatitis Day (WHD) is observed on July 28 every year to educate the public about viral hepatitis.
The objective of Essay Writing Competition was to sensitise students, spread awareness about the disease and their contribution in elimination of the same. The theme conveys the urgency of efforts needed to eliminate hepatitis as a public threat by 2030.
A large number of students from across all the Semesters participated in the Essay Competition.
The students highlighted prevention, early diagnosis, screening, control, etc to eradicate the disease. Among the entries submitted, Vaishali Sharma of semester second stood emerged as the winner of the Essay Writing Competition.
Dr. Tarseem Kumar, Prof. Jaspal Singh and Tanpreet Singh, Committee members of Red Ribbon Club coordinated the event. Prof. Rajni Bhagat, Principal GDC Pouni applauded the efforts of the Committee members and participants. She congratulated the winner for showing keen interest in such awareness campaign.
Earlier, Government Degree College Pouni in connection with the Digital Week Celebration, under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, organised a series of activities from July 25 to July 27 to impart awareness about online services.
The event was organised by the Co-curricular Activities Committee in collaboration with IQAC Committee.
Prof. U S Liza, Convener of Co-curricular Activities and Prof. Balbir Kumar and Dr. Varsha Kapoor, Convenor and Co-convener of IQAC, were the In-charge of the Digital Week Celebration.
All the Faculty In-Charges and the Heads of the Departments were directed by the Principal to promote and engage students in this campaign through Poster-making, selfie point, and Lectures.
The event started on July 25 with Poster Making Competition on Digital J&K Logo in which a large number of participants came out with visually appealing and colorful posters.
Priya Sharma and Meenakshi Sharma of semester 4th shared the first position. Aditi Mangotra, Anju Sharma and Aditi Sharma of semester 2nd secured the second position.
On the second day, July 26, College witnessed a large number of creative students coming forward and making the Selfie Point that took 4 hours to complete. The Selfie Point made by Shami Kumar, Balvinder Singh, Rohit Kumar, Balbir Singh, Anju Devi, Rimpi Sharma, Aditi Sharma, Vishali Sharma, Sonika Sharma, and Arti Jamwal attracted a large number of students and made the event really fun. On July 27th, Dr. Varsha Kapoor delivered a lecture on the Digital Initiatives in J&K and On July 28th, Tanpreet Singh delivered a lecture on the topic, “Sports and Digital Media.”
Dr. Varsha Kapoor acquainted the students with the Nine Pillars of Digital India and Provisions for the Common Masses, while Tanpreet Singh threw light on the difference between sports and games, followed by the Impact of Digital Media on Sports.
On July 29, huge Banners depicting IT initiatives were made; banners that depicted online services like Aap Ki Zameen Aap Ki Nigrani, Aap ka Mobile Hamara Daftar (UMANG), e-UNNAT, DigiLocker etc.
The objective was to create awareness about government e-services and encourage students to avail the same. The overall event came out to be successful by the collective efforts of the In Charges, Dr. Varsha Kapoor, Prof. Balbir Kumar and Prof. U S Liza, and the organising committee members, Dr. Prem Singh, Dr. Tarseem Kumar, Prof. Jaspal Singh and Prof. Bindu Sharma. Digital week celebration commenced and ended with enthusiastic participation of Professors and students who aimed to ensure digital access and digital inclusion of all.
