Announce relief for families hit by flash floods in Khansahib: Hakeem tells JK Govt

PDF Chairman also expresses grief over death of a nomadic girl, damage to standing crops

Khansahib (Budgam): Chairman Jammu & Kashmir People’s Democratic Front (J&K PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has expressed serious concern over colossal damage caused to life and property including death of a nomadic girl in Kharian hamlet , damage to residential houses ,Kothas and cattle heads due to cloud burst and flash floods that struck upper areas of Khansahib constituency Wednesday evening this week.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Hakeem while expressing sorrow over the death of a nomadic girl of Kharian hamlet and colossal damage caused to cattle population , residential structures and shelter sheds ( kothas) due to devastating thunder storm and flash floods in upper areas of Khansahib ,has urged the government to provide ex-gratia relief to the affected families on emergency basis. He has urged the district administration Budgam to send rescue and disaster management teams in the affected areas especially in Arizal ,Chill- Brass and Kashipora immediately to help affected families and assess the quantum of losses . He said as per reports besides on the spot death of a girl of Kharian hamlet ,, corpses of many cattle and sheep , gass cylinders and rubble were seen flowing down nearby streams and nallas in Khansahib area which has created panic and anxiety among the people .
PDF Chairman has also urged the government to keep rescue and disaster management teams in the state of readiness as due prevailing climatic conditions and monsoon season , such incidents of cloud bursts and flash floods are occurring in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir almost day in and day out. He said advance weather warning system about possibilities of cloud bursts and torrential rains needs to be broad based to save lives and property of the people . He said the weatherman has also predicted more light to moderate rain at scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir in next few days which could cause possibility of flash floods, mudslides and landslides at vulnerable places. ” So administration should remain cautious and prepared as these events often occur suddenly”, he said.
