Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya: Bijli Mahotsav held at Dunaroo Keller, Shopian

Shopian : As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence, the District Administration Shopian along with Ministry of Power in association with NHPC, KPDCL Thursday organized a ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ at Primary School Pathran Dunaroo Keller, here.
The Bijli Mahotsav is being celebrated all over the country under the umbrella of Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047 for more public participation and getting across the developments in the power sector to the citizens at large.
DDC Vice-Chairperson Shopian, Irfan Manhas inaugurated the Bijli Mahotsav by lighting the lamp.
Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Manzoor Hussain; Executive Engineer KPDCL Shopian, Er Mohammad Rashid Chowdary; various DDC members and other senior officials of District Administration and respected public representatives were also present.
On the occasion, the dignitaries highlighted the benefits of electricity and the unprecedented growth achieved by the power sector over the past few years.
Various cultural programmes, nukkad nataks and screening of short films on the power sector were organized. The event also witnessed several beneficiaries sharing their experiences.
Manager NHPC, Nasser S Bhat who is also District Nodal Officer for the event Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya while addressing the gathering said that the government is doing remarkable work in the field of electricity. The local administration is implementing various schemes with the help of the central government and the public is getting benefited.
ADDC Shopian also expressed his views on this occasion and gave detailed information about the programme being run for the public.
During Bijli Mahotsav some of the key achievements of the power sector were highlighted and include 169 GW of generation capacity added, transforming our country from power deficit to power surplus, 1.6 lakh ckm of transmission lines added, connecting entire country into one grid running on one frequency, emerging as largest integrated grid in the world
Achievement of 100 percent village electrification (18,374) in 2018 and 100 percent household electrification (2.86 Cr) and Rs 2.02 lakh Cr outlay for system strengthening which has increased power supply in rural from 12 hours in 2015 to average 22.5 hours at present, fastest-growing RE capacity – doubled from ~76 GW in 2014 to ~160 GW now; Achieved 40 percent RE Gen. capacity mix in 2021 and stands 4th globally.
Under Centrally sponsored schemes KPDCL Shopian has achieved 100 percent electrification in the district by installing 02 no. of new 33/11KV Receiving Stations of capacity 16.3 MVA, , 136.33 CKms of HT Line, 765 No. of Transformers and 494.16 Kms of LT Distribution Line under PMDP, DDUGJY, Saubhagya etc.
In addition various grid stations and receiving stations have been upgraded for providing reliable power supply in the district Shopian.
