DM Doda chairs meeting of Distt level Committee on NCORD ,DC directs stakeholders to pool resources to curb drug trafficking; asks to constitute Joint Action Committees at Sub Division level

Doda : To curb the drug trafficking from the district, District Magistrate Doda Vikas Sharma and SSP Abdul Qayoom Wednesday convened a meeting of District Level Committee on Narco Coordination Centre Mechanism (NCORD) here in the mini meeting hall of DC office complex Doda.
During the meeting SSP Doda, who is also the convener of the Committee, presented in detail the aim and objectives of the District level Committee.
Besides, he explained the efforts made by the Police and other stakeholders in curbing the menace of drug trafficking from the district.
The SSP informed the meeting that 32 NDPS Act cases were registered against 34 persons during the year 2022, of which 21 cases have been challaned and rest 11 are under investigation. Besides, 26 notorious drug peddlers have been taken into preventive custody and the process is on to identify more criminal elements.
Besides, illicit cultivation of poppy has been destroyed at many places with the joint efforts of police and civil administration, he informed further. “During the current year, counselling of 35 drug addicts have been done in 70 exhaustive sessions” he added.
Highlighting the terms of references of the DLC, the DM Doda directed all the departments to ensure mass awareness against the drug menace across the district. He directed the concerned to submit the action taken report from 1st January, 2022 till date to his office so that a separate base line data of each stakeholder shall be compiled and updated accordingly in subsequent months.
The DM also fixed first Tuesday of each month as a meeting day of the DLC and asked all the departments to ensure submission of action taken report before the meet without any fail.
With regard to the illicit cultivation being done in the hot spot areas identified by the police department, the DM directed the ADCs, SDMs and other stakeholders to mobilise their field functionaries to destroy the same and initiate punitive action against the perpetrators of the drugs trade. The DM ordered to constitute Sub division level committee with the members from each concerned department to intensify fight against drug trafficking in all parts of the district.
The education department was also directed to generate mass awareness in colleges and schools as these are the breeding grounds. He asked for creation of intelligence groups in each institution to tighten noose around the elements involved in drug trafficking. Besides, DIO Doda was directed to disseminate the IEC material on drug abuse in print and electronic media on regular intervals to generate mass awareness.
The education department was also directed to share the list of institutions where libraries can be set up for the engagement of youth in fruitful activities. Besides, DSWO Doda was directed to follow the proposal of drug de addiction centre at highest level.
The DM asked all concerned members to pool their efforts with motivation and zeal to completely curb the drug trafficking across the district.
The meeting was also attended by ADC Doda, ADC Bhaderwah, ACR Doda, SDM Thathri, SDM Assar, CMO Doda, CAO Doda, ETO, DSWO Doda, STO, and other concerned officials.
