Old sculptures found in distt Budgam, handed over to Archeology deppt : Police

B’gam : Police on Wednesday said that locals of village Gudsathoo Budgam on Tuesday afternoon informed Police about some sculpture they found while digging the land.
In a statement issued on Wednesday that on receiving information from the people of Gudsathoo village of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district a Police party of district Budgam rushed to the spot and took the possession of sculpture. Stating that a team of officers from Department of Archives, Archaeology & Museums, J&K Government were called for examination of the recovered sculpture at District Police Headquarters Budgam, Police in it’s statement further said that during examination it was revealed that the recovered sculpture is of Lord Vishnu and dates back roughly to 9th Century AD (about 1200 years old), stating therein further that the said sculpture is three headed and with four arms having lotus on upper right hand and is a mixture of Gandhara and Mathura School of Art.
Police in it’s statement also said that similarly another sculpture which was recovered from Khag area by Police Budgam was also examined by the team of Archives, Archaeology and Museums who established that the sculpture is the fragment of Punch Mukh.
Bin the concluding para of it’s above referred statement police said that both these sculptures were handed over to Dy. Director, Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums Kashmir ushtaq Ahmad Beigh and his team led by SSP Budgam Tahir Saleem Khan in presence of Director Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums Kashmir Pardeep Kumar and SHO Police Station Budgam Insp. Aftab Ahmad through proper handing and taking over procedure.
