Ujwal Bharat-Ujjwal Bhavishya: Grand function held at Kulgam to celebrate Bijli Mahotsav

Kulgam : As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence, the Ministry of Power in association with NHPC, District Administration Kulgam and KPDCL Monday organized ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ at Conference hall of Mini-secretariat, here under title of ‘Ujjwal Bharat-Ujjwal Bhavishya’.
On the occasion, District Development Chairperson Mohammad Afzal Parray along with Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Dr.Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat inaugurated the Bijli Mahotsav by lighting the lamp.
Among others, DDC, BDC and PRI members, President Municipal Council Kulgam besides ADDC, ADC, GM NHPC Uri II Power station, SE KPDCL and other officers and a large number of people from various areas of the district participated in this function.
During this Mahotsav, dignitaries highlighted the benefits of electricity and the unprecedented growth achieved by the power sector over the past few years.
Various cultural programmes, nukkad nataks (Street Play) and screening of short films on the power sector were held.
The event also witnessed several beneficiaries sharing their experiences.
Chairperson, District Development Council while addressing the gathering said that the government is doing remarkable work in the field of electricity. He said the local administration is implementing various schemes with the help of the central government, and the public is getting benefited from it, which is appreciative.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted achievements recorded in the district in the last few years.
He said that several new receiving stations were made functional including Nagam, Ashmuji, Chambagund among others while several others were augmented.
He added that under various centrally sponsored schemes Rs. 90 crore was spent to augment the power supply scenario in the district and power network of 114 villages was upgraded.
