Jammu : Director Horticulture Jammu, Ram Savak Thursday convened a meeting of Chief Horticulture Officers and Horticulture Development Officers of Jammu, Samba, Reasi, Kathua and Udhampur districts of Jammu Division at Horticulture Complex Talab Tillo, Jammu to review the progress of developmental activities being carried out during the current financial year.
During the meeting threadbare discussion was held on various agenda points. The officers appraised the chair about the status of different works, expenditure incurred, liability, progress made in the implementation of various developmental schemes as well as production of quality planting material in the Departmental Nurseries.
The Director instructed the officers to ensure better implementation of Departmental schemes especially plantation of new orchards, custom hiring centres, Pack house, mechanization, etc. for the ultimate benefit of the fruit growers as well as better and full utilization of funds in time. He asked them to motivate private entrepreneurs for establishment of Low Cost Processing Units & private nurseries with the assistance of the department.
In respect of development of nurseries, the Director impressed upon all the incharge nurseries, to focus on introduction /plantation of elite varieties in departmental nurseries and enhance the production of quality planting material so that the department may become self-sufficient in meeting the demands of the farmers and thereby increasing our revenue. Also, all the departmental nurseries should be accredited through the National Horticulture Board at an earliest.
The Director exhorted upon them to download the “Horticulture App”, acquaint the farmers about the utility of the app, enroll them and ensure that all the applications of the farmers for availing the incentives under different schemes should be processed through the app.
Among others, Dy. Director Planning, Dy. Director Horticulture (Central), OSD’s, Nursery Registration Officer, DLSMS (Pomo) and other officers attended the meeting.
