Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police today lodged a case against those who have uploaded and shared a ‘seditious’ video on social networking sites, including Facebook.
The step comes days after Director General of Police SP Vaid directed police to initiate tough action against social networking news group for spreading fake news. A police spokesperson said here this afternoon that some anti-national elements have shared a seditious video claiming to be shot in Murran Chowk in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on social networking sites.
“The claim is baseless and as such is refuted,” he said. He said a case has been lodged against the people behind these updates and sharing. The video, allegedly from last year, shows young children parading with Pakistan flags during a function to mark the Independence Day of Pakistan. Dr Vaid had said, ”anti-peace elements are using social media as a tool to foment bloodshed and violence in the Valley.
Unfortunately some WhatsApp news groups are also spreading false and fake news.” The police chief had said the CID department will soon identify and initiate legal action against such groups and the process in this regard has already been initiated.
