Comr Secy Forests reviews progress on implementation of CAP for elimination of SUP across J&K

Srinagar : Commissioner Secretary, Forests, Ecology and Environment, Sanjeev Verma Wednesday chaired a meeting to review the progress on implementation of Comprehensive Action Plan (CAP)for elimination of Single Use Plastic (SUP) across Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Deputy Commissioners, Municipal Commissioners of JMC/SMC, Director Urban Local Bodies, Jammu/Kashmir, senior officers of forest department and representatives from other concerned line departments.
During the meeting, the decisions taken in the 3rd National Task Force meeting for taking measures to eliminate identified single use plastic items and effective implementation of Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016 were also conveyed to all districts for execution.
Speaking during the meeting, The Commissioner Secretary directed the participants to implement the effectively in their respective areas besides and update on the progress of implementation should be forwarded on regular basis.
During the meeting, the Commissioner Secretary instructed the concerned Departments including Housing & Urban Development, Rural Development &Panchayati Raj, Industries & Commerce, Urban/Rural Livelihoods Mission and all District Authorities to take up the implementation of the Action Plan vigorously in mission mode during the month of July, 2022 as part of the pan India campaigns on generating awareness on SUP and enforcement of Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.
Verma also directed the District Authorities to convene meetings of the District Environment Committees with involvement of the J&K Pollution Control Committee for effective implementation and monitoring of the Action Plan on Elimination of Single Use Plastic (SUP).
The DCs/MCs/Directors of ULBs were also instructed to report the progress achieved regularly on the app and dashboard developed for this purpose by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.
Further, it was decided in the meeting that the representatives of Urban/Rural Livelihood Missions will also be co-opted in the meetings of the Committees as well as in the campaign to generate awareness among the masses regarding alternatives available for replacing SUP.
