SKUAST Jammu hosts Talk at Lawn meeting

VC hails scientist for producing 21 varieties of different crops

Jammu :Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu has appreciated the university scientists for their tireless efforts in bringing 21 varieties of crops for the farmers of Jammu Division that will help them in a long way in increasing their farm productivity.
He was speaking during ‘Talk at Lawn’ meeting jointly organised by the Division of Agricultural Extension Education and Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry to take stock of teaching, research and extension activities being conducted by them.
The objective of the programme was to discuss the problems, needs and priorities of the University staff and research scholars and their just solutions on the spot.
For the promotion of natural farming, Prof. Sharma stressed upon the scientists to identify the areas which are accidently under organic agriculture and where the farmers are using less quantity of fertilizers and pesticides as natural farming has ample scope in Jammu region. He suggested them to identify the areas where the farmers can be benefitted by carbon sequestration. Prof. Sharma advised the Heads to arrange visits of PG scholars of their Divisions from time to time to reputed national institutes like IARI, New Delhi, NDRI Karnal, and IVRI Bareilly for learning innovative techniques in research.
Prof. Sharma suggested the scientists select and decide research work of their PG scholars that is based on the needs, interests and problems of the farmers so that the findings of the research can be meaningful and useful to the farmers. For bringing precision in research of PG scholars, he suggested applying correct research methodology as it gives research legitimacy and provides scientifically sound findings. He also advised for application of modern research tools.
During the programme, Dr.Rakesh Nanda, Director Education & Head, Division of Agricultural Extension Education and Dr.Vikas Sharma, Head, Division of Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry presented the outline of the current academic and research initiatives and future plans of their Division.
Dr. S.K. Gupta, Registrar, Dr.PardeepWali, Director Research; MadanLal, Comptroller, Dr.JyotiKachroo, Director Planning & Monitoring; Dr.RajinderPeshin, Controller of Examinations, Dr. A.K. Mondal, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture; Er. Iqbal Singh Sudan, Estate Officer, scientists, ministerial staff and students attended the programme. Dr.SushmitaDadhich conducted the proceedings of the programme.
