Director inaugurates Inter departmental football tournament at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar  :Director National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal on Friday inaugurated the inter-departmental football tournament 2022, in which eight department teams are participating.

The tournament is being organized by the Department of Physical Education NIT Srinagar. The inaugural function was presided over by Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Sehgal, while Institute’s Registrar Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari was ‘Guest of Honour’.  Dr. Srinibash Mishra, SAS Coordinator was also present on the occasion

While inaugurating the mega football tournament, Prof. Sehgal applauded the role of Physical Education Department in conducting sports activities round the year and assured his full cooperation for future projects.

He said regular participation in sports activities teaches us to plan ahead and see through the consequences of our acts. “We need to quickly assess the situation, adjust, adapt and act accordingly. Being flexible and not carry a fixed mindset,” Director said.

Prof. Sehgal assured the football players of every possible support in terms of coaching and augmentation of their skills and performance.

Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari highlighted the benefits of sports and said that participation in sports activities promotes health and wellbeing.

“I appreciate all the students who took an active part in the tournament and in future, we will organize more such sports tournaments on the campus,” he said.

On the occasion, Dr. Srinibash Mishra, SAS Coordinator expressed his gratitude to the NIT Srinagar administration for supporting such initiatives on the campus.

He said 8 teams from 8 departments are participating in the mega event.

In 1st match Metallurgy and Material Engineering Department defeated Mechanical Engineering Department by 2:1. While in the second match, Civil Engineering Department defeated CSE by 6-1.

Similarly in the 3rd match, Electrical Engineering ECE Deptt, ECE Deptt won 3:1 and the 4th match played between IT Deptt and Chemical Engineering Department, Chemical Engineering Department won by 4:1.

In 1st Semi-final played between ‘Metallurgy and Material Engg. Deptt. vs Civil Engineering Department. CSD defeated the MME department by 4:1.

The tournament is being organized by Dr. Srinibash Mishra (SAS Coordinator), Kowsar Ali Mir (SAS Officer), Sohail Ahmad Baba (SAS Assistant), Abdul Gani Lone (Sr.Technician), Ghulam Hassan Dobhi (Sr. Technician), Abdul Rashid Sheikh (Office Attendant), Mohmmad Akbar Dar, Habib Ull ah Akhoon, Nadeem Ahmad and Minhaj ul Hamid.
