B’gam :The District Disaster Management Authority Budgam and Civil Defence Budgam conducted a daylong awareness cum training programme on disaster management, preparedness and mitigation at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall Budgam.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Budgam, Dr Nasir Ahmad who presided over the function called for prompt readiness to combat disasters to mitigate loss of life and property during any natural or man-made disasters.
He said since district Budgam along with others parts of Kashmir falls in seismic zone-iv and v, need is that stress is given on all four factors which are preparedness, rescue, relief and mitigation to ensure robust and effective disaster management system in the district.
ADC further sensitized participants about the dangerous effects of encroachments on streams, lakes and other water bodies and deforestation and appealed all to play their role voluntarily for quick response towards mitigation during disasters.
Hundreds of students attended the programme, where trainers from SDRF gave live demonstrations on proper use of various tools and equipment during any disaster.
On the occasion, ADC also highlighted the role of District Administration and preparedness at district level for prompt response towards disasters.
He urged students to ensure they make best use of the training programme and apply the same in case any disaster happens and become saviors of life with all these skills and training given in such workshops.
On the occasion, many resource persons deliberated on measures, preparation and the importance of establishing a proper disaster management system.
