DM Reasi suggests measures to curb illegal production, distribution of drugs

Reasi : District Magistrate, BabilaRakwal Thursday convened a meeting of the District Level Committee for Narcotic & Psychotropic substances Thursday.
After threadbare discussion it was directed that concerned Tehsildar would collect reports from Lamberdars, Chowkidars and Patwaris about illicit cultivation and processing of poppy and wild hemp, as well about the manufacturing of lahan in their respective jurisdictions. The report would later be submitted with the concerned Sub Divisional Police Officers.
Further, Drug Inspector Reasi was directed to check and proceed for sealing of unregistered chemist shops in the district under Drug & Cosmetics Act in coordination with concerned Tehsildar and SHO. He was told to ensure that no chemist shop sells medicines without a doctor’s prescription.
It was decided that Anti-Drug Abuse awareness programmes would be organised in Degree Colleges, Polytechnic College and Higher Secondary Schools. Counselling centres would be established in all Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools.
Additional Superintendent of Police Reasi provided details of the cases registered under NDPS Act over the past five years for possession and use of psychotropic substances and for illegal cultivation of poppy and hemp in the district.
It was informed that 340 cases have been registered in the district during the period, out of which 40 cases pertain to this year upto June, 2022. Under the NDPS Act, 440 persons have been arrested, he informed.
TehsildarReasi was directed to immediately identify state land measuring 5 kanal as requested by the Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi for establishment of Drug De-addiction centre.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate, Abdul Star; Additional SP Reasi, Surjit Kumar; Sub Divisional Magistrate Mahore, SDM Dharmari, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, tehsildars, Drug Inspector among other members of the committee.
