2 drug peddlers held in Sopore & B’pora, contraband substances recovered: Police

Sopore: Police on Friday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Sopore and B’pora and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Friday police said that in Sopore, police Station Bomai received a specific information through reliable sources about one person namely Nasir Akbar Wani son of Muhammad Akbar Wani resident of TujjarShareef Sopore having hoarded & concealed Narcotic substances, Stating therein further that on receipt of this information, a police team from Police Station Bomai headed by SHO PS Bomai intercepted and apprehended the accused drug peddler at a checkpoint established at Bun Astan Tujjar Shareef and upon checking officers recovered 105 grams of Charas like substance from the accused drug smuggler who was shifted to PS where he remains in custody.
Stating further that in Bandipora, while acting on a specific information, police Party of Police Station Bandipora led by SHO PS Bandipora under the supervision of Dy SP Hqrs Bandipora, laid a surprise checkpoint at Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora, Police in it’s statement further said that during checking, police party intercepted 2 suspicious persons who on seeing police party tried to escape from the spot but alert party apprehended a person identified as Mohmmad Shafi Sheikh Resident of Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora. Stating that the other person identified as Mohmad Ashraf Sheikh Resident of Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora however managed to escape from the spot, police in it’s above referred statement further said that efforts are on to effect the arrest of the said absconding peddler and meanwhile 70 grams of Charas, 04 illicit liquor & 03 Beer bottles were recovered from the possession of the accused who has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Police in its statement further said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Stations and investigation have been initiated.
In the concluding para of its statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt strictly as per law.
