GCoE Srinagar conducts mega event to commemorate ‘Int’l Day of Yoga’

Srinagar: In continuation with a series of programmes conducted by the Department of Physical Education and NSS Units of Govt. College of Education (GCoE) Srinagar in view of ‘International Day for Yoga-2022’ and under ‘AzadiKa Amrit Mahotsav’ since April 2022, a mega event was organized on Tuesday to commemorate ‘International Day of Yoga’, here.
The chief guest on the occasion was Prof.Dr.QayyumHussain, Vice Chancellor Cluster University Srinagar.
The other dignitaries present were Dr.Khurshid Ahmed Mir, Registrar, Cluster University, Srinagar; Dr.Mushtaq Ahmed Lone, Dean Academics, Cluster University, Srinagar and Dr. Tariq Ashai, Secretary Sports, Cluster University, Srinagar who was the Special Guest for the event.
The Vice Chancellor in his address reflected upon the benefits of yoga for all as this is an exercise for body, mind and soul. He encouraged the students to adopt yoga in their daily lives for their physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.
Special guest of the programme, Dr. Tariq in his address highlighted the significance of yoga and talked about different courses of Yoga that should be introduced in Cluster University Srinagar.
It was followed by remarks from Registrar Cluster University Srinagar and Dean Academics, Cluster University, Srinagar.
Earlier, the programme started with a welcome address by the Principal of the host college Prof. (Dr.) SeemaNaz. In her address, she welcomed the guests, faculty and participants present on the occasion. She emphasized on the importance of yoga in our institution as it trains teachers besides the youth.
A Yoga demonstration session was also held in the Indoor Sports Complex of the college in which student NSS Volunteers and some faculty members participated with full zeal and enthusiasm.
The expert trainer of the programme was Asiya Rashid, Certified Yoga Trainer from Yoga Alliance International and Yoga Society of Kashmir who demonstrated different Yoga Asanas.
Dr. M. Ashraf Wagi, Coordinator NSS Unit II, presented a detailed report of different Yoga activities performed over the last two months.
The Vice Chancellor felicitated the students who had participated in different competitions held during the 2-month long Yoga campaign.
Later, the guests visited the Art Exhibition organized by ArshidSualeh, Art teacher of the college. Various paintings made by students of the college on “Yoga and Wellness” were displayed in the exhibition.
