Pulwama : Syed Mantaqui Memorial College of Nursing and Medical Technology, IUST Awantipora in collaboration with white globe foundation organized health awareness outreach programme on the occasion of Autism pride day on Saturday.
The programme was held under the guidance of Professor Shabir Ahmad Bhat, Dean outreach Islamic University of Science & Technology.
Principal SMMCN&MT, Ms Asmat Parveen discussed about the Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), which is a neurodevelopmental illness that affects a person’s capacity to socially engage.
She said that “many people mistake Autism for a disease. However, it is only a reflection of the mind that distinguishes autistic persons from the general population.”
“Every year, this day is marked to increase global awareness of this ailment. People who have been diagnosed with autism share their stories and talk on the theme of Autistic Pride Day to commemorate the occasion,” Asmat said.
As per the official statement, Autistic Pride Day, as the name suggests, is a very significant day since it educates the general public about the difficulties that affect people with autism.
The statement reads: “to combat the stigma and make autistic persons feel at ease, we must treat them with respect and empathy. This day also advocates for people with autism to have equal opportunities.”
Keeping in view the importance of the day, Ms Asmat Parveen Principal, Syed Mantaqui college of nursing organized health awareness outreach programme at Green valley educational institute Illahi Bagh srinagar, during which students of Bsc. Nursing 3rd year, educated parents of affected individuals, teachers and students regarding autism, its signs and symptoms, how these children can be managed and rehabilitated.
Students also presented their views on autism spectrum disorder through poster presentation under mentorship Ms Andleeb faculty and Ms Rumaisa.
Principal of Green valley educational institution, chairperson of white globe foundation and SP Hazratbal presided over there as guest of honour.
