Anantnag: The 396th annual ‘Urs’ of Baba Naseeb Ud Din Gazi (RA) celebrated with utmost gaiety and exhilaration in the southern region of Kashmir. The festival takes place in Baba Mohalla , located in the beautiful town commonly known as the Town of Chinars, Bijbehara which is a very historical in nature. Hundreds of devotees from parts of Kashmir arrive at this place and swarm the mausoleum of Baba Naseeb Ud Din Gazi (RA).
The Urs or festival is celebrated continuously year after year to mark the birth of saint Baba Naseeb Ud Din Gazi (RA). The most popular attractive event of the Urs of Baba Naseeb Ud Din Gazi is the Sufi dance and is also known to the people by Dhamali Dance. The beats of the drums and the sound of the Sufi dancers are heard from all the corners of the valley. The traditional “Damali” is enjoyed by the men, women and children.
According to reports, Baba Naseeb Ud Din Ghazi has written about 22 books mostly in Arabic and Persian.He constructed 1200 Mosques and Bathrooms, Musafir Khanas, Bridges and planted trees on both sides of the roads wherever he went to apprise people about the teachings of Islam.Baba Naseeb Ud Din Ghazi had several disciples the famous among them are, Sheikh Momin, Haaj Baba, Baba Abdullah Guzaryali, Mohammed Amin Sofi, Mula Zehri Kashmiri, Khawaja Mohammed Amin Gazi, Mulla Tayub Tahiri, etc. Earlier, Quran Khawani, Darood Azqar and Khatmat-ul-Mozamaat were also held during night-long prayers.Devotees prayed for peace, prosperity, unity, brotherhood and communal harmony of Jammu and Kashmir.
