BGSBU holds event to mark Biotech Startup Expo –2022

Srinagar: As a part of the “Biotech Startup Expo –2022”, a one-day event was organised by the Department of Biotechnology, School of Biosciences and Biotechnology BGSBU, Rajouri, which was attended by faculty members, research scholars and students. It was organized under the aegis of the Department of Biotechnology (BDT) and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), Government of India, New Delhi. This event was held to mark the completion of ten years of setting up of BIRAC. The theme of the event was “Role of Biotechnology in entrepreneurship”.
Prof. Akbar Masood, Vice-Chancellor BGSBU, congratulated the concerned Department for organizing such events. He said that the Indian biotechnology industry is one of the fastest growing knowledge-based sectors. Prof.Akbar mentioned that India currently ranks amongst the top 12 biotechnology destinations worldwide and is a global leader in the production of drugs and vaccines. The Vice-Chancellor said that for an economy like India, biotechnology is a powerful enabling technology that can revolutionize agriculture, healthcare, industrial processing, and environmental sustainability.
Dr A. A. Shah, Associate Dean, School of Biosciences and Biotechnology, in his concluding remarks, emphasized that India is witnessing a paradigm shift in its conventional policies in education, Biotechnology employment avenues, and the role of academic and industry to make India self-reliant, as we call it Atma Nirbhar Bharat.

Tanvir Ul Hassan Dar, Coordinator, Department of Biotechnology, delivered the inaugural address. Two sessions were organized, and an oral presentation was delivered followed by a poster presentation. Several participants expressed their views on the theme, including Mr Yaser Rafiq Mir (Senior Research Fellow), who delivered a talk on the “Role of next-generation sequencing technology in health care entrepreneurship”, while Sajid Ali Shah (Research Scholar) also discussed “Role of biotechnology in entrepreneurship”.

While Ms Nadia Gul (Senior Research Fellow) conducted the event proceedings, Dr Saima Aslam addressed a formal vote of thanks.
