Environmental awareness prog held in GDC Tral

Pulwama|June, 8: While celebrating World Environment Day, Department of Environmental Science, Department of Geography, NSS unit and Debate & Seminar Committee of GDC Tral organised Environmental awareness programme in collaboration with the Department of Social Forestry J&K, in which Shri Roshan Jaggi (IFS) PCCF/Director Social Forestry, UT of J&K, was the chief guest of event.

Senior Faculty member Prof. Bashir Ahmad Shah welcomed the Guests Shri Roshan Jaggi, Mr. Mehraj-ud-Din Malik, Regional Director, Social Forestry, Kashmir, Mr. Manzoor Ahmad DFO Pulwama and other officials form Social Forestry Department.

Speaking on the occasion he shared the developmental journey of GDC Tral from 2010 to present besides speaking on our duties towards environment.

In his inaugural address Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, Principal GDC Tral talked about the importance of World Environment Day. He highlighted the various Environmental issues and ways to tackle them.

He thanked the officials form the social forestry department for all the necessary support in order to make the college campus greener.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Mehraj-ud-Din Malik deliberated on various environmental challenges and needs of afforestation for fighting the climate change.

He also thanked the college administration for holding such events and assured them the full support infuture as well.

Dr Javaid Ahmad Tali, (Head Department of Geography, GDC Tral) presented his research paper on Urban Heat Island of Kashmir Himalayas: A study of Srinagar city, in which he highlighted the land use change and its impact on the land surface temperature.

The Students of the College Ms Ronak Tariq, Mr. Ajaz Ahmad, Ms Infar Niasr and Ms Nusrat Jan presented their thoughts regarding the theme of World Environment Day.

In order to encourage the students they were felicitated with mementoes.
Shri Roshan Jaggi delivered his talk about the importance of education (particularly environmental conservation) for the wellbeing of humanity.

He urged the students to actively participate in environment conservation in and outside campus.

He shared his life experience regarding the role of education in changing the lifestyle of students, and insisted on the implementation of policies regarding the environmental conservation.

To cement the relationship between Govt. Degree College Tral and Department of Social Forestry, Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two on the occasion.

Whole program was moderated by Dr Mukhtar Ahmed Dar, Convener Debates and seminar Committee and the formal vote of thanks was presented by NSS program officer Prof. Muhammad Aabid Shah.

After the technical Session, a special plantation drive was conducted inside the college campus in which fifty plants of different varieties were planted.
