NIT Srinagar organizes awareness workshop on innovation and start-ups

Srinagar: The Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship Development (IIED) Centre in collaboration with Institutions Innovation Council (IIC) Thursday organized an awareness workshop on ‘innovation and start-up’ at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.
The event was presided over by Sheikh Jahangir from National Innovation Foundation and a three-time president awardee.
He was the brain behind the innovations in the Hindi blockbuster, 3 Idiots and was the chief guest and main speaker for the event.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) RakeshSehgal said innovation is important in today’s world for the betterment of the society. India being an economic country can be the exporter of simple innovation to the world, he said.
Prof.Sehgal stressed on filing patents is also important because it provides its owner with the right to exclude others from exploiting the patented technology including, for example, making, using, or selling the patented invention, he said.
“The exclusive right enables the patent owner to recoup development costs and obtain a return of investment in the development of the patented technology,” Prof.Sehgal said.
He also briefed students about ‘why start-ups and innovations are important and urged students to “bring their ideas to reality through the use of technology and knowledge”.
“The current period is era of technology and there is competition at every stage. Our students should be ready to enter the era of innovation,” Prof.Sehgal said.
Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said patents provide incentives to individuals; in particular, the inventors deserve recognition for their creativity and material reward for their marketable inventions.
“The incentives encourage innovation, which ensures that the quality of human life is enhanced,” he said.
Dean Research & Consultancy, NIT Srinagar, Prof. M. F Wani explained that the entrepreneurial society in India is growing and that it is a golden time to get forward in the race of start-ups and enterprises.
“No country can survive without development and for development innovations are a necessity,” he said.
In his key address, innovator Sheikh Jahangir (The Real Rancho) native of Andrapradesh and settled in Mumbai energized the students with his lines “through simple ideas world can go towards progressive growth”.
“It is right time for the budding engineering to take up the nation to the next level,” he said.
The prominent innovator also shared many life examples including the experience in the 3 idiots movie, how his simple innovation move his life from nowhere to a famous personality with his innovation.
Jahangir also shared his experience on the hybrid scooter that is used for different modules like washing and grinding. He motivated students how simple innovations are if anyone has passion and interest.
The creative innovator Jahangir also answered many of the questions that were raised by the attendees and cleared their doubts regarding struggles and obstacles in innovation and how the process takes place.
The session began with the welcome address by Dr Dinesh Kumar R, Convener IIC. He welcomed dignitaries, guests, and participants to the workshop.
Head IIEDC Prof.SaadParvez delivered the inaugural address to the gathering and seeded the students about the importance of innovation. He motivated the students to take entrepreneurship as a passion.
“The young minds can take our nation to a great height. It is the right time to support the country’s mission on ‘Made in India’ with budding minds,” he said.
A formal vote of thanks was presented by Incharge Incubation, Dr Noor Zaman Khan.
He expressed his gratitude to Innovator Sheikh Jahangir, Director NIT Srinagar Prof.Sehgal, Registrar Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari, organising committee of IIEDC, Mr Naik from Kalam Innovation Club Anantnag and all participants for making the event a grand success.
