Awareness events held across Jammu Division to mark World No Tobacco Day

Jammu: Directorate of Health Services, Jammu commemorated World No Tobacco Day by organizing an awareness event in GGM Science College ground where students and staff from Science College and SPMR Commerce College along with Officers of Health Department took a Pledge to never use or consume any type of Tobacco Products, and motivate family members and acquaintances also to desist from tobacco use.
They pledged to contribute to the protection of the Environment from Tobacco use. Pertinently, the theme for World No Tobacco Day this year is Tobacco: Threat to Environment.
Afterwards, a Rally of the College students was taken out from the College, which culminated at the starting point after moving via Jewel Chowk and DograChowk. The Rally was flagged off by Director Health Services, Dr SaleemurRehman and the Principals of the Colleges, Dr.RavinderTickoo and Prof. R. S. Jamwal. The students displayed placards and banners highlighting the negative impact of Tobacco products on the Environment.
District Health Society Doda: District Health Society Doda organized awareness programmes across the District including, a grand event at ANMT School Doda.
Earlier, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mohammad Yaqoob Mir flagged off an awareness rally comprising the ANMT School students, besides staff from Health Department and Police participated.
The students were holding placards and banners placards depicting harmful effects of tobacco consumption. The rally went around the market to make people aware about the ill effects of tobacco and urged the people to make the district smoke/tobacco free and healthy.
Later, an awareness programme on tobacco was also held at ANMT School Doda where experts from the medical, judiciary, police and food safety department threw light on importance of the day.
Similar awareness programmes were held in the Medical Block Assar, Bhaderwah, Gandoh, Ghat and Thathri.
At Rajouri: Health Department Kotranka organised awareness event on World No Tobacco Day at Community Health Centre Kandi to raise awareness about the harmful effects of all tobacco products.
ASHA workers, health staff and general public participated in the event. Block Medical Officer Dr Iqbal Malik said around 12 lakh people die in the country every year due to smoking.
“Tobacco users may get affected by 40 types of cancers and 25 other serious diseases and among them mouth and lung cancers are the main prominent cancers. Apart from this, smoking also weakens immunity” he added.
At Ramban: High School Chanderkote organized a rally as a part of World No Tobacco Day, 2022 activities to educate the citizens about the importance of World No Tobacco Day which is observed on the 31st of May annually.
At the outset, the students of the institution spoke on the issue and informed their fellow students about the addiction and dangers of Tobacco. The staff and students of the institution also took a pledge to keep themselves and their acquaintances away from the Tobacco.
At Kishtwar: To educate the people about the health implications of Tobacco consumption, Department of Health and Family Welfare in collaboration with Food Safety, DFCO Kishtwar Tuesday observed the “World No Tobacco Day” (WNTD) at district headquarter Kishtwar.
During the observance of the Day pledge was taken to never consume any type of Tobacco product in life thus make contributions for protection of Environment.
Besides this mass awareness programmes were also organized by the Health Department at each medical blocks.
GDC Pouni: National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Government Degree College Pouni organised an awareness program to mark No Tobacco Day on the campus.
On the occasion, pledge was taken by the students and staff to fight tobacco menace. The students were also educated about the injurious effects of tobacco consumption.
