Srinagar : A three day District AnantnagWushu Championship being organised by J&K Sports Council in collaboration with J&K Wushu Association commenced Friday in Nelandrusu Indoor Hall, Anantnag.
The mega sports event was declared open by Nuzhat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports Council in which more than 850 players including boys as well as girls are participating.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary J&K Sports Council lauded the efforts of J&K Wushu Association and its affiliate District unit of Anantnag for providing the opportunity and a platform to the youth of South Kashmir to prove their mettle at the national and international level events.
She emphasised on the major role sports can play to keep a check on the drug menace as sportspersons are the true ambassadors of the society and they shall help in inspiring and motivating the younger generation and others to remain fit.
Secretary said that our youth are our future, they are the one to determine the outcome of our society and the country as whole and if their upbringing is ethical, moral and value based, our society shall be the better place to live in and shall play a vital role in carving the future of not only J&K but country as whole.
She also added that J&K Sports Council is aiming to organise mega events for all recognized games in district centers to break the mundane of remaining confined to one particular place and this event is a step in that direction.
Addressing the mammoth gathering, NuzhatGul said, “all this was possible only due to sports-friendly measures adopted by the government, like creating world-class infrastructure with all possible training and learning facilities”.
She said there are no second thoughts that the youth of J&K are immensely talented and they deserve more opportunities to display their talent and bringing events to district centers shall help in realising the dream of players waiting in wings.
The Secretary Sports Council said that the apex sports body is always available for the handholding of athletes and help them realize their potential.
This step is also aimed to ensure panchayat level participation of all blocks and to estimate the response and inclination of players to any particular game which shall help prepare the youth of J&K for big events like the Asian Games and Olympics and World Championships, she added.
“J&K Sports Council has drawn a roadmap to produce athletes of repute who can give their competitors a run for the money and we are duty-bound to serve our sports stars to the purpose”, she said while concluding.
Members of the media fraternity from South Kashmir, who were present in large numbers applauded this gesture of Sports Council to organise major events in the district Anantnag and thanked J&K Sports Council and expressed their gratitude to Secretary J&K Sports Council.
