Srinagar: The summer capital Srinagar has witnessed the hottest night of the season so far at 22 degrees, three degrees above normal, while there was no respite from hot and humid weather during the day in the Kashmir valley. However, people in the valley generally believe that weather changes at the end of the Amarnath yatra, which concluded today when last pujan was performed at the holy cave.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that rain and thundershowers could occur at isolated places during the next 48 hours in Kashmir valley. He said Srinagar recorded the hottest night of the season after mercury surged and settled at 22 degrees, against 21 degree recorded yesterday. The night temperature was around three degrees above normal.
Meanwhile, the hot and humid temperature continued during the day despite prediction of rain at isolated places in this summer capital. The mercury during the day yesterday was 33.7 degrees. The hottest day recorded in Srinagar was on June 5, when mercury surged and settled at 34 degrees. But, the night temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, dipped and settled at 13.2 degrees, against 13.8 degrees recorded yesterday. It was still about 2 degrees above normal. The day temperature in Gulmarg witnessed a surge. Against 21 degrees, the day temperature yesterday was 22 degrees, which is 2 degrees above normal.
The night temperatures recorded at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag was 19.8 degrees, 19.2 degrees and 18.8 degrees respectively. Similarly, the mercury at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 kms from here in south Kashmir, witnessed a marginal surge and settled at 16.8 degrees against 16.4 degrees.
