Ramban In view of Holy Ramadan & forthcoming festivals, the Department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, along with other enforcement agencies, on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam Wednesday conducted a massive market checking drive here across the district.
A joint team of officers of FCS&CA, Legal Metrology Department and Police carried out a surprise check in Banihal market and recovered Rs 4600 as fine from defaulters.
Several other enforcement teams inspected markets in their jurisdictions and booked erring shopkeepers found failing to maintain the quality of food items, not displaying rate lists of essential commodities, selling expiry products besides indulging in practices of illegal profiteering and sale of underweight products.
They also destroyed spoilage fruits and vegetables. The shopkeepers, Dabawales and vendors were directed to maintain hygiene and quality of eatables and also ensure display of price list.
