Pulwama: On the eve of National Panchayati Raj Day (NPRD) observed every year on April 24 by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj to celebrate the constitutional status accorded to the Panchayati Ray system in the country, a series of events and programmes were held across the district.
On the occasion, awareness about Panchayats and Gram Sabhas were held, besides the institutions of the local self-governments for the rural areas mandated by the Constitution and also about their roles, responsibilities, achievements, concerns, resolutions etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, BaseerUlHaqChoudhary, said that district Pulwama has achieved DeenDayalUpadhyayPanchayatSashaktikaranPuraskar (DDUPSP) under District Panchayat Category that has been given by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Govt of India under the incentivization of Panchayats Scheme in recognition of their good work for improving delivery of services and public goods.
Block Shadimarg under Block Panchayat Category has won the award by the Ministry”, the DC informed.
Similar functions were also held across the district.
Among others the event was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Pulwama, Dr Sheikh Ab Aziz, ACR Pulwama, and Aijaz Ahmad besides line departments, PRIs and a large number of the general public.
Meanwhile, the DC has appreciated the concerned functionaries associated with the achievement and said that more needs to be done with zeal and dedication so that the district also shines in other fields.
