Srinagar: The Union Ministry of Heavy Industries organised a day-long meeting of its consultative committee on the theme of Climate Change and Manufacturing at Srinagar Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister of Heavy Industries said that keeping in view the vision of Prime Minister, industries should work towards ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and make India a global manufacturing hub. He also said that Industrialization is the need of the hour to make the country self-reliant in all fields, but it is equally important that the industry should work to reduce carbon emissions as per the commitment expressed by Prime Minister in COP-26 and Industries should adopt green and state-of-the-art technologies. He emphasized that clean and green environment is the need of hour for better future of nation. The meeting focused on the efforts done by the Ministry and way forward to tackle climate change through adoption of innovative and futuristic policies.

In order to promote e-mobility in India, the Ministry has launched Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME I) schemes – Phase I and II. Also, recently the Ministry has also launched Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for manufacture of advanced chemistry cells in India and also for auto and auto parts. With the increased adoption of electric vehicles, the country’s dependency on oil imports is expected to reduce. Also, adoption of E-vehicles will result in improved environmental conditions and lesser pollution.

As a step toward tackling climate change and to fulfill the PM’s vision, the ministry has also sanctioned a large no. of EV charging stations across the country.

The ministry is committed to the development of futuristic technologies for India’s energy transition and climate mitigation. In a step towards this direction, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited under the ministry is working towards development of Advanced Ultra Super Critical Technology for coal based power plants. The company is also focussing on the process of coal gasification to provide a solution towards cleaner usage of coal.

Such significant steps by the ministry are contributing significantly to the country’s climate goals and PM’s vision of sustainable development and making the country Aatmanirbhar.
