Udhampur : Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, InduKanwalChib Thursday inaugurated 3-day Historic BaisakhiMela on the banks of holy Devika rivulet in Udhampur town in presence of President Municipal Council, Dr Jogeshwar Gupta.
While speaking on the occasion, the DC extended her warm greetings to the people on the auspicious Baisakhi day and hoped that the festival will bring peace, prosperity and harmony in J&K. She said that the historic Mela on the sacred DevikaGhat has its own significance. “People from all walks of life are curious to visit and take holy baths in the sacred Devika rivulet during the mela’ she said. The DC addedthat such mela bring people of different religions, races and regions closer which would help to maintain harmony amongst all the sections of the society.
Meanwhile, the District administration has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Mela by making provision of uninterrupted power, safe drinking water, sanitation, medicare, joint Control Room, assistance booth and security. Various departments have also put up their departmental stalls.
A number of temporary sweet shops, toy shops and other eateries set up by the locals and outside vendors were the main attraction for the general public visiting the mela site.
District Information CenterUdhampur also arrangedcultural programmes based on local folk culture during the mela.
Among others, ADC Mohammad Syed Khan, ASP, Anwar- Ul -Haq, Vice President MC Surinder Singh Khalsa, District Information Officer, Rajinder Kumar Digra, Field Publicity Officer, KhursheedYousuf, TehsildarUdhampur Amit Verma who is also the mela officerof BaisakhiMela and other district officers besides Councillors of various wards and a large number of people were present on the occasion.
