Jammu: Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Department of Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi, Thursday batted for public participation in policy formation as well as execution for obtaining desirable results.

“Unless people partner in the initiatives of the government, many a goals remain on paper and may not yield desirable results” the Minister said.

She was speaking after inauguration one each library established by Jodhamal Public School (JPS) in three government run schools adopted by it since 2016. The schools adopted by JPS under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode are Government High School Deeli, Government primary school, Sainik Colony and Government primary school Prithvipur.

Highlighting the importance of such ventures she said, “One of the lesser known reasons behind the success of Narendra Modi government has been his ability to make development a mass movement by empowering people and harnessing their potential for the success of government’s efforts”.

“We in J&K State also intend to make people part of policy formulation and its execution. Certain initiatives like ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padah’, though initiated and supported by government, were more or less designed and successfully executed by people themselves at local level. Public-oriented governance is based on reviving people’s lost pride and diverting the emerging latent energy on that account towards development and human endeavours”, she said.

She said children of government institutions possess immense potential but lack a direction and motivation. “More private institutions must come forward to adopt government schools and nurture them to give equal opportunities to these not so privileged children” she asserted.

The Education Minister further added that the endeavour aims at to bring these children at par with their counterparts of private schools. “Visits to the private schools will increase the confidence level of these students and also give them exposure. It is a two-way learning process where students of private schools will also learn to acknowledge the privileges they have as compared to poor students.”

Director School Education Ravinder Singh besides Nandan Kuthiala and  Arati Kuthiala who adopted three government institutions were also present ion the occasion.

Meanwhile, during the event government school students presented a Nukkad Natak on ‘destiny’.  The students of JPS also presented a Nukkad Natak on ‘Betio Bachao Beti Padaho.’

It was informed that Jodhamal Public School has also launched R B Kuthiala Jodhamal Education Foundation Scholarship for girls studying in government schools of border areas of Jammu province, modalities of which are being worked out.

The Director School Education, in his address, said this initiative seeks to help the marginalized students by providing an exposure to a different and enhanced academic experience.

The JPS Principal in her address said, “We will work to improve the communication skills of these students. Since they are not too good at English, our teachers have designed assignments for them to improve their speaking skills.”

Teachers from Jodhamal PS had been going every week to these schools to carry out activities and to hone spoken skills of these children and to provide them with books and other stationary material.

The endeavour enable the Government High School Deeli to participate in national level competitions like Vox Populi and Polifest, she said adding two students of this school were sponsored for national level talent summit at Vasant Valley school New Delhi by JPS as well.

She said theatre, teachers’ exchange and sports events are some of the activities the private school is undertaking to benefit the students of government schools.
