Re-verify AAY lists to ensure only genuine people get benefits: Zulfkar

Srinagar: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Information, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali Thursday directed the concerned to do re-verification of consumers falling under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) in order to ensure that genuine people are getting benefit from the scheme.

Speaking during a review meeting, the Minister said AAY category is meant for section of people who are financially very weak. He said it is therefore, important that the genuine people who deserve special Government assistance in terms of extra food grains at discounted rates find themselves in the list.

The Minister directed the concerned to revisit and re-verify the AAY lists and compile the fresh lists  within a fortnight so that only authentic consumers falling under AAY category could receive their due share.

Urging for expediting the distribution of ration cards, the Minister directed that the process of new ration cards in entire State should be completed before August 15. Failure to do the same would result in taking a disciplinary action against errant officers, he added.

Appreciating his employees over the success of linking of consumers aadhar details with their ration cards, the Minister said the camps held last month in this regard not only made people aware about the importance of the linkage, but also helped in increasing the registration. The meeting was informed more than 14.5 lakh cards have been aadhar seeded so far in the State.

To keep up the good work, the Minister directed to organize similar kind of camps in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions in next week from Aug 7- Aug 12. It was decided that the deputy directors would monitor two to three districts to ensure the camps are organized smoothly.

During the meeting, the Minister reiterated for immediate redressal of consumer grievances. He said the department is directly related with consumers and failure to address their grevience in a time bound manner would not be tolerated.  The Minister issued the instructions that the consumers should be resolved within a reasonable time of around seven days and those who fail to do so would be dealt sternly.

Chowdhary Zulfkar also directed the concerned to ensure that the process of supply chain management is started in entire State at an earliest.

Commissioner Secretary FCS&CA Shafiq Raina, Director FCS&CA Jammu R A Inqlabi, Director FCS&CA Kashmir Nisar Ahmad Wani and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
