Drug awareness prog: Police hols events in Budgam, Handwara

Budgam, Handwara| March, 24: In view of growing menace of drugs and to spread awareness among the general public about ill effects of substance abuse, police organized drug awareness programs in Budgam and Handwara.
In a statement issued on Thursday police said that in Budgam, the program was held at Bright Horizons Higher Secondary Institute Sheikhpora in which large number of students, civil society members and teachers of the said school attended the function. SSP Budgam Tahir Saleem presided over the program as the chief guest.
Stating further in that DySP Hqrs Budgam, DySP DAR DPL Budgam, Miss Insha, In-charge DDC DPL Budgam & Coordinator KU Zahid Jeelani were also present on the occasion.
SSP Budgam in his address complimented the organizers as well as the participants and highlighted the need to protect our young generation from the menace. He said that drug abuse poses a serious challenge to our society and urged upon different sections of the society to act vibrantly against this menace.
He also stressed upon the parents to closely monitor their children and urged them to help their wards choose different career avenues through which they channelize their potential and energy in a positive way.
SSP Budgam also administered the pledge among the participants not to indulge in any drug abuse. Among other speakers, Miss Insha In-charge Drug De-addiction Centre DPL Budgam threw light on ill effects of drugs & Coordinator KU Shri Zahid Jeelani spoke about the ill effects of drugs on society and its remedies.
Besides, various students also spoke about the menace of drugs and accordingly first three position holders were awarded. Bareera Bilal, Hayaka Gul and Tammana Shah bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
Police in its statement further said that in Handwara, police in collaboration with School Education Department held a day-long awareness program on Drug De-addiction at Government Higher Secondary School Tarathpora which was inaugurated by ASP Handwara Irshad Hussain Rather. Principal GHSS Tarathpora, Tehsildar Vilgam, SHO PS Vilgam, health experts, teaching & non teaching staff, students from GHSS Tarathpora, members of Civil Society and religious preachers were present on the event.
Starting the program, ASP Handwara gave an elaborated view about the menace of drugs, it’s sources, causes, consequences, role of every members of society. He said that it is the duty of all stakeholders to join in creating awareness about the illegal use of drugs and the measures to be taken to prevent this menace.
He also said that to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, public cooperation is necessary and stressed upon the participants to share all such information related to drug addicts as well as drug supply in the area so that police can act swiftly. On the event, members of civil society, religious preachers, teachers and students also spoke & highlighted the causes and consequences of drug abuse.
