Complex knee replacement surgery performed at GMC Bla under AB-PMJAY SEHAT

Srinagar : A successful case of complex total knee replacement surgery was performed on a patient in Orthopaedic operation theatre at Associated Hospital GMC Baramulla by a team led by Professor Dr.A R Budoo and Assistant Professor, Dr.Zameer Ali. The patient availed the treatment under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan ArogyaYojana (AB-PMJAY SEHAT).
The patient had a deformed knee due to long-standing osteoarthritis. Intra operatively the team of doctors had to balance knee cuts and ligaments to attain normal knee. It took almost 3hours to complete the surgery. During the operation, doctors’ team was supported by the anaesthesia team of Dr.Gulzar Ahmed and Dr. Jahangir Ahmed.
Pertinently, the replacement surgeries are being done only at GMC Baramulla in North Kashmir. The department performs almost 70 major spine surgeries and 40 joint replacement surgeries annually.
