Jammu: A one day workshop on sustainable Agriculture Management with community participation in rural and urban areas was Saturday organized for women farmers by the Department of Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare, here at Kisan Kendra Jammu.
Director AP & FW Jammu, K. K. Sharma inaugurated the workshop by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
At the outset, Joint Director (Extension), Subash Chander Sharma presented a brief note on the prospectus of the programme.
The Director stressed on the need to develop agriculture on commercial lines by developing entrepreneurship in the sector.
Highlighting the role of women in farming, he said that formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs) forms the basis of next green revolution and to achieve this target, department is striving hard towards formation and promotion of women SHG in each Panchayat of the Jammu Division by providing every possible help including capacity building and financial assistance.
The Director also called for promotion of Urban farming by way of popularizing grow bags/ grow trays at roof tops and backyards. He further advocated value addition and brand promotion of agri-products for efficient marketing.
Dr. Indu Bhushan Sharma, Retired Dy. Director, Veterinary Department, shared important information on dairy farming on a cooperative basis.
Dr. Aman jyoti Sharma, Agriculture Chemist discussed in detail round the year cultivation of mushrooms for assured income generation.
Dr. J. C. Raina, Agronomist (Vegetables) Covered the topic on dietary importance of vegetables and cultivation of exotic vegetables.
Dr. Sanjay Dhar threw light on the importance of SHGs in Agriculture.
Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma, Apiculture Development Assistant deliberated on bee-keeping as part of integrated farming and agripreneurship development.
Later, during the particle session, women farmers visited different sections at Krishi Bhawan including Apiculture, Mushroom and Vegetable Improvement Scheme to have firsthand experience of the latest technological interventions being implemented there.
