Int’l Women’s Day under MGNREGA celebrated at Budgam

Women from various walks of life felicitated for exemplary work

B’gam |March,17: A daylong program was Thursday organized by the Office of Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Budgam at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall, here to celebrate International Women’s Day under MGNREGA.
The program was attended by Nazir Ahmad Khan, Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Budgam as Chief Guest and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza as Guest of Honour.
Among others, the program was also attended by ADC Budgam, ACD, BDC members, CEO, CMO, CHO, DIO and other officers and officials concerned.
The program also witnessed huge participation of MGNREGA workers, students and sports athletes.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC Chairman focused upon the role of women in the modern era and said that women in the present day are excelling in every field of life and should not feel low or isolated as they tread on new paths to touch heights and reach newer destinations.
He said that women are the jewel of the society and every religion has given prime importance to the dignity of women.
The DC congratulated the organizers for holding a programme focusing on women emancipation and regarded women folk as the basic unit and foundation of society.
‘Women are equal and at par with men’ in this regard no doubt should be raised, the DC said.
Element of Patriarchal mindset is gradually eroding and if it exists anywhere is unreasonable and unacceptable, the DC reiterated.
He further said that time has changed, women are now at the forefront, be it in the field of education, health, Sports etc.
The DC highlighted that women are now participating in formation of local, state and national Governments and setting up of self-employment ventures, which is a path breaking success and a remarkable achievement indeed.
RJ Rafia Rahim who hails from Char Sharief Budgam also shared her views with the audience and said that Women are more powerful and should make every effort to realise their dreams. Women need to come forward and perform to the best of their abilities, RJ Rafia added. ‘Don’t Delay your plans’, Rafia urged upon all the women who attended the programme.
During the program, many cultural programmes based on the theme of women empowerment were performed which enthralled the audience.
Dr. Tajamul Hussain Khan, CMO Budgam also spoke on the occasion and said women are a blessing, as such every day of the year should be celebrated as Women’s Day. Citing Health Department Budgam, he said, Four District officers in the Health Department, ASHA workers are women who are doing exceptionally well to ensure that better healthcare is provided to the public of Budgam.
Inspector Gulshan who heads Cyber police unit at Budgam emphasized upon the positive mindset which shall go a long way in further emancipation of women. Cyber police unit Budgam is always available for any kind of help needed by any women in distress, she remarked.
