Budgam : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza Tuesday launched a Chinar plantation drive at BhistZehra (A.S) Park, here.
The plantation drive was organized by District Floricultural Office Budgam.
On the occasion, the DC planted a couple of Chinar saplings at the park and informed that as many as 2000 chinar trees shall be planted at various places across the district.
He urged the public to plant and protect all Chinar trees for their multi- dimensional essence including cultural values and for environmental safeguards.
He said that massive plantation drives are being conducted currently in all parts of the district to ensure a maximum number of saplings of various varieties of trees are planted during this season.
Assistant Floriculture Officer Budgam who was also present on the occasion said that there is presently 3000 Chinar population in the district and efforts are on to double the population during this year only.
He said that the Floriculture Office shall alone plant as many as 2000 Chinar trees in the district and increase the number every year.
He said March- 15 is celebrated as Chinar- Plantation Day and during the campaign people shall be sensitized on the importance of protecting the chinar trees.
