Series of activities mark Celebration of Int’l Women’s Day at GDC Udhampur

Udhampur : Government Degree College Udhampur organised myriad of programmes on the occasion of international women’s Day here under the guidance of the College Principal Prof. Subash Chander Sharma.
Invited Talk, Self Defence training, Poster making, Slogan and Essay writing competition and many other events were organised to celebrate the occasion.
In his message, the Principal congratulated all female Staff and students on the day and appreciated the efforts of CASH, PG Hindi, NSS, NCC, DSW and Students Council of the College to show keen interest in organising various events to make this day memorable for all. He inspected and chaired many of the Programmes organised in the college.
Early in the morning, the Committee against Sexual Harassment (CASH) under the coordination of Prof. Samta Sharma organised a Talk on Mental Health and Well-being of Women at Workplace presented by Dr. Manisha Saroop Kohli, HOD Psychology. The Programme was chaired by Chief Guest Prof. Seema Kotwal, HOD Botany. Prof Babu Lal Thakur was the special guest on the occasion.
Prof. Samta Sharma welcomed the guests and the participants. The speaker Dr. Manisha Saroop Kohli elaborated on the need of mental health as well as the well-being of women at the workplace and also shared some techniques to overcome some unwanted clutter.
The chief guest lauded the efforts of CASH for the programme on International women’s Day and also its relevance in the present scenario. Dr. Pankaj Sharma did the stage Coordination. Dr. Archana Gupta tendered a vote of thanks. Dr. Kawaljet Kour was the rapporteur of the event. The Guests were presented with saplings of flowers.
The PG Department of Hindi organised an essay writing competition in which out of the twenty participants Mamta Kumari of MA Hindi Sem 3 and Ritu Devi MA Hindi sem1 clinched first prize, Angrej Singh of BA Sem 5 bagged 2nd and Sania BSc Sem 3 got 3rd position, while Sangeeta and Suvita Devi got Consolation prizes. Prof. Reena Bhagat, Prof. Sanjeet Singh and Santosh Gupta were the judges for the event.
In a first of its kind event, Students Council of the College under the DSW organised a self-defence martial arts training camp for the female students of the college. Over one hundred twenty female students participated in the training camp.
M.K Saini and Minakshi Raina were the chief instructors, assisted by Sahil Singh, Neeraj Manhas and Sumit Sharma.
The students learnt many techniques to protect themselves from the attackers and bullies. The Programme was attended by Prof. B.L Thakur, Prof. RK Atri, Dr. Pankaj Sharma, Dr. Ajay Sharma DSW, Prof. Samoosh Kumar, Prof. Pardeep Kr., Prof. Rajan Atri, Rakesh Singh, Sumati Anthal and many others. The president Manoj Verma presented the Welcome Address. Vishakha Jamwal Compeered the program and Vishal Roudan presented vote of thanks.
The NSS Units of the College under the supervision of Dr. Ajay Sharma organised Slogan Writing and poster making competitions on Gender Equality.
In Poster Making, Priyanka Kotwal and Ishpreet Kour of BSc Sem1 locked the 1st prize followed by Sakshi and Rupali for the 2nd and third position. Nisha Devi and Sumit Kumar had to satiate with consolation prizes.
In the slogan writing, Tanvi Jamwal BSc Sem-I Secured 1st, Shivali Sharma 2nd and Manvee and Poonam clinched 3rd position jointly. Muskan and Shruti were adjudged for consolation prize. Prof. Imtiaz Shahid, Dr. Pankaj Sharma, Prof. Samoosh Kumar were the judges for the event. The programme was wrapped up with an NSS song.
