UDHAMPUR, MARCH 08: Vice Chairperson, DDC Udhampur, Juhi Manhas Pathania, Tuesday underscored the role of women in the global crusade for climate change.
She was speaking at a series of largely attended and exquisitely organized functions on the occasion of International Women’s Day, here at Government Degree College Majalta and GDC Neeli Nallah.
She recalled the contribution of women in the global movements for the overall development and betterment of the world as well as the society. She said that they have a role inter-twined with global climate change.
“Women are most interlinked with the impacts of the climate crisis as it amplifies existing gender inequalities and puts women’s lives and livelihoods at risk. Across the globe, women depend more, although have lesser access to, natural resources, and often bear a disproportionate responsibility for securing food, water, and fuel” she noted.
As women bear the yoke of climate impacts, they are essentially leading and driving change in climate adaption, mitigation and solutions. Without the inclusion of half of the world’s population, it is unlikely that solutions for a sustainable planet and a gender neutral world will be realized.
She listed flagship schemes launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi like ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ and other initiatives whereby it has been vowed and vouched for the right approach towards women as well as other weaker sections of society. The function at GDC Majalta was organized by Prof B.B Anand with support of its NSS wing.
The function at GDC Neeli Nallah was organized by Prof. Satleen Kaur.
An impressive march past and cultural programme was organised on the occasion. The DDC Vice Chairperson also inspected developmental works initiated in the College by the establishment.
Juhi also elaborated upon other smart practices whereby quality & education could be ensured to the girls in the district of Udhampur. She again congratulated females of the area on the day with a clarion call to rise, excel and constructively engage and emancipate itself regarding global challenges.
