Srinagar: A recently joined militant was arrested after he was injured during an encounter that took place at Langate area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district while a search for another militant is on, officials said on Saturday.
The officials said that the encounter broke out shortly after joint security forces including army, CRPF and SoG of Jammu and Kashmir police cordoned off the area following inputs about the presence of militants there.
They said that during brief gunfight, one newly recruited militant was arrested in an injured condition along with arms and ammunitions.
The officials identified the injured militant as Abrar, son of Gh Hassan Gojri of Azadgunj Baramulla. While the search for other trapped militant is going on as the police and security forces were on the job.
The official said that the arrested militant was earlier a stone pelter and two FIRs are already registered against him, adding that later on he started working as an OGW and joined the ranks recently.
Meanwhile, a case under relevant sections of laws has been registered and further investigation has been taken up. Police tweeted that “Police/SF arrest a recently joined militant identified as Abrar resident of Azad Gunj Baramulla along with arms/ammn in an injured condition during an ongoing encounter at Langate area of Handwara.
