Intellectual Property Rights awareness workshop held in GDC Kathua

Kathua : Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department of Promotion of Internal Trade, Office of the Controller General of Patents, Design and Trademark, Govt. of India, in association with Career Counselling and Placement Cell of Government Degree College, Kathua on Thursday organised a one day workshop on the topic “Intellectual Property Rights Awareness”.
The College Principal Dr. M.S. Pathania, was the Chief Guest, while Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma, officiating Principal was the Guest of Honour.
Dr. D. Usha Rao, Assistant Controller of Patents and Design, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India was the Expert Speaker on the occasion.
The programme began with the welcome address by Prof.Rakesh Singh, Convener, Career Counselling and Placement Cell, GDC Kathua who outlined the purpose and structure of the event.
The College Principal Dr. M.S Pathania, in his address, stressed on IPR awareness to enhance creativity, innovation, competitiveness, and economic growth in India.
Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma, in her address, emphasized that IPR awareness is vital to generation and then commercialization of IPRs. She appreciated the efforts of Career Counselling & Placement Cell, GDC, Kathua in organising such types of awareness programmes.
Resource person, Dr. D. Usha Rao, in her deliberations make the students as well as faculty of different institutions across the J&K aware about various types of innovations and their protection through patent filing. Protection of Intellectual Property is a vital component of innovation and scientific advance and many benefits of inventions will be lost if the resulting IP is not protected. Moreover, the procedure of filing patents and protection of designs was also discussed during the workshop.
The event was concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr.Pankaj Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry.More than 100 students along with faculty from different institutes participated in the workshop.
Among others who attended the workshop were Dr.RoshanLal, Prof.Neha Mahajan, Dr.Kamaldeep Singh, Dr. Surya Partap, Dr.SumitDubey, Prof.NishaBhagat, Dr.Upasna, Dr.Ambica, Dr.Varinder Singh, Prof. Shiv Kumar, Dr.Ambicaand Dr.Renu Gupta.
