Awantipora : Police on Monday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in two different instances in Awantipora and also recovered contraband/psychotropic substance from their possession.
In a statement issued on Monday police said that in Awantipora police arrested two drug peddlers identified as GhMohi-ud-din Bhat @ Cheeni son of Gh Mohd resident of Tral Bala & Feroze Ahmad Pinchoo son of Ab Ahad Pinchoo resident of Jawberra Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Kharmoad, stating therein further that 22 bottles of Codeine Phosphate concealed in two polythene bags were recovered from their possession.
Stating further that in another instance, a police party of Police Station Awantipora at a checking point established at Padgampora arrested a drug peddler identified as Abdul Aziz Dar son of Abdul Razaq resident of KharmodAwantipora and upon searches officers recovered 5 Kgs of grinded Cannabis concealed in a bag from his possession.
“The arrested drug peddlers have been shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody”, reads the police statement, adding that “ cases vide FIR numbers 25/2022 and 26/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora& investigation have been taken up”.
In the concluding para of its statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
