DRSC reviews Road safety measures in Doda

DC asks NHIDCL to install crash barriers on vulnerable stretches

Doda : Deputy Commissioner Doda, Vikas Sharma Monday chaired the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting to discuss the road safety measures and future action plan.
The DC, while reviewing the available mechanism for enforcement of road safety rules, directed the ARTO to propose the purchase of enforcement vehicles and Speed Guns under road safety funds.
The Chairman, while reviewing the erection of crash barriers along sides of Batote-Khalleni road, was informed that 13 Km length has been covered till date, while out of 14 black spots, 9 have been covered on the said road.
On the erection of crash barriers on Khalleni to Ganpat road and ThathriGandoh road, the XEN PWD (R&B) informed that the proposal for the same has been submitted to the Chief Engineer’s office.
On Doda- Bhaderwah, Bhaderwah- Chatergalla and Drudu- Jai, The OC GREF was directed for clearance of all the black spots, installation of crash barriers, creation of viewpoints, eateries and toilet facilities along the roadsides as the roads cater to the major tourist places of the area.
The DC directed for constituting a committee of Revenue Official, PWD officialand GREF officials for identification of the sites for viewpoints and to remove the encroachments on the roads leading to major tourist places.
The Chair also directed for immediate erection of crash barriers and signages on Doda- Dessa road.
While reviewing the progress on the establishment of the prestigious Driving & training cum fitness institute, the DC was informed that a patch of state land has been identified and the matter shall be taken up with concerned authorities for the formulation of DPR.
Further, the DC asked the concerned to make installation of GPS tracking system mandatory for all commercial vehicles and also register the JCBs operating in the district with installation of GPS. He further directed to install GPS in the ambulances for strengthening the disaster response mechanism.
The DC directed to formulate a schedule for IEC activities for spreading awareness about road safety rules across the district. He asked for submission of a proposal to the concerned authorities for purchase/ providing of two Hill recovery Cranes and more BLSAs for the district.
Other important issues discussed in the meeting included, working of the toll free number in the district, creation of road safety Clubs in schools & Colleges, road safety audit of all existing roads, designation of police station for inquiry in the accident causes, enforcement of RIBBON Development Act, etc.
The meeting was attended by ADC Doda, CPO Doda, SSP Doda, CMO Doda, ARTO, Executive Engineers of PWD & PMGSY, OC 114 RCC (GREF), DTI Doda, CAO Doda, Inspector MVD, EO MC Doda, EO MC Bhaderwah, representative of NHIDCL, and representatives of other members of the DRSC.
