Kulgam : The Govt. Degree College Kulgam Monday celebrated the International Mother Language Day to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural heritage of Kashmiri Language.
The essence of the event was to promote, preserve and protect all languages people speak.
Speaking at the event, the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Kulgam, Showket Ahmad Rather who was also chief guest on the occasion said that languages are innate and it is our moral responsibility to protect the mother tongue.
In his address, AyoubSabir (Guest of Honour) recited his humorous poetry on Kashmiri language.
Dr. N. A. Simnani, Principal of the college welcomed the guests, Poets, faculty and language activists of J&K. In his address, he advised students and the audience to feel proud of our mother languages.
On the occasion the invited poets from the valley recited their humorous and creative poetries.
During the event, musical performances were presented by the invited music party. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Prof.Dr.Hashim Iqbal.
Similarly To celebrate international mother tongue day, Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kulgam organised a colourful function within the school premises.
On the occasion speakers from school and outside laid thrust on the importance of mother language.
