Rajouri: SKUASTJ, IGFRI RRS Srinagar organise awareness, training prog on Fodder Production

Rajouri : A one day awareness and training Programme on Fodder Production, Utilization and Conservation was organised on Saturday here at village Mankote.
The event was organized by IGFRI RRS Srinagar in collaboration with Regional Agriculture Research Station Rajouri of Sher e Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Jammu.
The village is mostly inhabited by Gujjars and Bakarwals-the pastorals whose main occupation is rearing various kinds of livestock including cattle, buffaloes, goat and sheep.
During the camp, scientists including Dr. Suheel Ahmad, Officer-in-Charge, ICAR-IGFRI, RS Srinagar, Dr. Vikas Sharma, Incharge, RARS Rajouri interacted with the farmers about recent initiatives and technologies in agriculture, importance, value and advantages of local plants, fodder genetic resources and various aspects of fodder production and utilization, like mineral mixtures, deworming medicines were also discussed.
Farmers were acquainted with various temperate perennial grasses and use of mineral mixtures for enhancing livestock productivity.
A number of local tribal farmers with a majority of women attended the day-long programme.
Maize seed (SMC-4) was distributed among the farmers besides mineral mixture kits, deworming medicines and tarpaulins were also distributed and demonstrated among the farmers.
The farmers of the area hailed ICAR-IGFRI RRS Srinagar and RARS, Rajouri for organizing such awareness cum training programmes.
