Kulgam, Pulwama, Handwara : Police on Friday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Kulgam, Pulwama and Handwara and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Friday police said that on specific information, a police party of Police Station Kulgam at a checkpoint established at Laroo crossing intercepted a suspicious person and identified him as Bilal Ahmad Wani son of Mohd Yousuf Wani resident of Gonipora Hyhama, Kupwara and upon checking, recovered 14Kgs of Poppy from his possession, stating therein further that
the above named accused has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in another similar action Police Station Pulwama received a specific information through reliable sources about one person namely Jamsheed Ahmad Sheikh son of Ajaz Ahmad Sheikh resident of Tahab having indulged in drug peddling and hoarded a large number of narcotic substances in his residential house, police in it’s statement further said the a Police party from Police Station Pulwama along withthe Executive Magistrate concerned raided the said location nd during searches recovered 5.5Kgs of cannabis leaves along with 125grams of cannabis (powder form) from the said house, stating therein further that the accused person was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Police in its statement also said that in another action in Handwara, officers at a checkpoint established at Dedikoot crossing intercepted two suspicious persons who after noticing a police party tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully and identified as Akhter Khan son of Ayaz Khan resident of Dedikoot and Tahir Ahmad Sofi son of SanaullahSofi resident of Batergam.
Stating that during searches 10 grams of Brown sugar from the possession of the above named accused who have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, police in it’s statement said that cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at respective police stations and investigation have been initiated.
In the concluding para of its statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
