Education plays a pivotal role in socio-economic and political transformation of the people everywhere in the world and fortunately people of Jammu & Kashmir also invest hugely in the education of their children. Fortunately the youth of Jammu & Kashmir are excelling in both the academic examination and as well as the All India level competitive examination held for entry into lucrative professions and prestigious services including the combined services examination held annually by the Union Public Service Commission. So it is obviously clear that education has virtually become a tool of human resources development in Jammu & Kashmir like many states and union territories of the country. Significantly education is not confined to only knowledge but it is now exposing educated youth to new streams of skill development. The basic purpose of enhanced impetus on skill development is to enhance the capacities and potentialities of youth in the streams of their own interests. Gone are the times when the teachers and parent would tend to impose their choices over the children in choosing careers. In fast changing educational and employment scenario the educated youth are given the freedom to select careers and livelihoods on their own. These emerging trends of education development show that both the teachers and the parents have understood the role of education in the socio-economic transformation of the people and consequently the political empowerment of youth in the institutions of basic governance and development. Though it is fact that unemployment continues to be at the centre of difficulties in economic upliftment of underprivileged and weaker sections of the society but it is equally an irrefutable fact that the changes in the education system will take some time to change the practices and processes of socio-economic transformation in Jammu & Kashmir.
Amid greater focus on skill development the government is introducing more and more diversified job oriented courses in technical colleges across Jammu & Kashmir just to expose educated youth to new trends of self employment. The basic motive of new education system is to further the causes of self employment with the motive of building among youth the spirits of hard work for the purposes of transforming not only their own lives but also the lives of others.
The implementation of new education system won’t bring changes overnight but it would take many years to bring about a perceptible change in the socio-economic transformation of the people through the new education system in Jammu & Kashmir like many states and union territories of the country.
