Pulwama  : As part of ‘Azadi Ki Amrut Mahotsav’ campaign, a daylong awareness program on ‘Drug Abuse and its Evil Impact on the Society’ was Friday held at Government Degree College (Boys) Pulwama, here.
The programme was organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Pulwama, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India in collaboration with District Administration Pulwama.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary was Chief Guest for raising awareness on the ill-effects of drug and alcohol consumption, in a comprehensive manner.
Addressing the participants, the DC said that it is often the overconfidence of parents on their child’s behavior that leads to ignoring or neglecting the behavioral changes that may result in irreparable damage to the personality or even loss of life of the victim.
He also said that substance dependency and drug abuse leads to criminal behavior and reckless lifestyle in the youth.
Participants opined that a few campaigns must also be conducted for the parents, encouraging them to talk to their children about drugs, and monitor their behavior, a well-counseling skill for reducing the drug usage by their wards.
Choudhary said that youth are the largest force of our nation and it must be directed in a positive way for their happy, healthy living. He also said that youth only can save themselves by conducting a large number of events, campaigning on the anti-drug messages to make a significant impact in the society.
On the occasion, resource persons through power point presentations deliberated on the different drug abuse, addiction and its effects on both mental and physical health.
They also sensitized the participants about the role of parents and society in stopping the spread of drug abuse menace in the society.
The resource persons laid emphasis on creating awareness, as drug abuse has become a cause of concern for all and strenuous efforts be taken to stop the menace so that a drug-free society is achieved.
In this event, Deputy Director NYK, Kashmir, Principal GDC (Boys), other management members, faculty members along with students of GDC were present.
