Srinagar: Handloom sector in Jammu and Kashmir is on the path of revival with state and the Central Government lending all possible support. Handloom Development Corporation, which is the main agency for its promotion, will be soon out of difficulties and is likely to make good the losses caused through floods and unrest. This was stated by Vice –Chairman Handloom and Handicraft Corporations Nizam-ud-Din Bhat while reviewing the functioning of these corporations.
He said the two main projects, WWDDC –Phase II for Srinagar worth Rs 9 crore and Kanihama project for Kani shawl for estimated 3.50 crores have been processed and are pending approval from Union Textiles Ministry.
Bhat said Development Commissioner in union Government for Handloom and Handicrafts is showing personal interest in the development of the two sectors and the two projects will soon get the clearance.
He said state Government is also thinking of enhancing the budgetary support and revolving fund for both Handloom and Handicrafts to improve the business and health of the two corporations.
Bhat said the two corporations have contributed to social sector in protecting the art and craft of historical importance in difficult times and it is because of the efforts of workers and employees that artisans, embroiders, weavers and other craft workers survive.
Bhat said it is with the commitment, dedication and hard work of this work force, skilled and unskilled, that the two key sectors wedded to our identity and indigenous growth that the art and craft of Kashmir will be restored to its pristine glory.
The VC appreciated the efforts of management in expanding business avenues through quality control and resource management. He said comprehensive study for exploring market avenues of the manufactured goods, art and craft items is one area which is now well looked after by the two corporations. However, more innovative strategies need to be devised for fair completion in local, national and international market, he added.
He made an appeal to Government for more generous support and expected one-time package to meet the liabilities arising out of salary component so that the corporations are relieved of stress and employees and workers can get desired comfort level to contribute fully towards the revival of the organizations.
