DDC Rajouri reviews achievements in Horticulture, Poultry sectors

Rajouri  : District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal Friday stressed on doubling the Horticulture production, poultry and egg production in the district. The DDC was chairing a meeting to review the achievements recorded in the twin Sectors in the district.
Taking the review of the Poultry sector, the Poultry Development Officer Rajouri, Dr Safeer Ahmed Tak informed the chair that in the year 2021, the district recorded 2326 ton production of poultry and 2.88 lakh eggs.
“About 24500 egg-layer chicks have been distributed till date in the district,” he added.
He also informed that besides 10 private chick farms in the district, the government owns 2 farms with a capacity of 7000 chicks.
The DDC asked for the constitution of the Poultry and Egg cooperative societies in the district for better and organized market linkage.
It was also decided in the meeting that the department will introduce kadaknath poultry breed in the district on a trial basis and distribute the chicks on subsidized rates among the farmers.
The Chief Horticulture Officer informed the chair that the Horticulture produce would go up to 6000 tons this year against 3800 tons last financial year.
“There are 04 functioning government nurseries in the district and 3.00 Lakh picanut saplings have been produced in the government nurseries, ” he added.
He further informed that California strawberries have been introduced in the district and a total of 200 kanal of land in different areas of the district are under strawberry cultivation, and 12 tons of strawberry have been produced.
He also briefed the chair that the Ultra High-density apple plantation at Behrote is a very successful venture, and the department is working to increase the area under it.
