Srinagar  : The Union Home and Cooperation Minister, Amit Shah released on Saturday the District Good Governance Index in Jammu and Kashmir. Below is the full text of his statement on J&K’s District Good Governance Index:-

The way LG Shri Manoj Sinha ji is running the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in Jammu and Kashmir, a big change has been seen in Jammu and Kashmir as per the vision of New India. A huge change began in Kashmir in the year 2019 under the leadership of Modi ji and in Kashmir where only 87 MLAs, six MPs and three families were in power, today more than 30 thousand people from the village level to the state. Representatives are serving the people. Today is important not only for Jammu and Kashmir but for the whole country because the new beginning that Jammu and Kashmir has made today will go to every state of the country and then a healthy competition of good governance will start in every district of the country. District is an important unit if good governance is to be taken to the grassroot level in true sense and unless there is good governance in the district, it has no meaning.

The competition between the districts through this Good Governance Index will be of great benefit to the general public of Jammu and Kashmir. J&K District Good Governance Index covers 10 sectors of governance and 58 indices with 116 data items, which include, Agriculture Services, Commerce and Industry, Human Resources, Environment, Justice and Public Safety, Social Welfare and Development. Some political parties are hurt because Panchayati Raj has come out of their family’s custody and they say that after the removal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the law and order situation has deteriorated here. I want to tell these people that if we do a comparative study of the period from April, 2017 to 2019 and 2019 to 2021, then there has been a reduction of 40 percent in terrorist incidents and 57 percent in deaths. Peace does not mean with new reforms but with administration, when people get good administration, they automatically become a participant in the process of development. In every field, J&K has tried to provide direct benefits to the beneficiaries in two years and it is natural that middlemen will be angry with this, but we have no fear of their anger. Those who raise questions, I want to ask that for so many years three families have ruled, then why all this did not happen, if you could not do all this, then what is the point of misleading the people of Jammu and Kashmir again. It means Jammu and Kashmir has the potential to attract tourists from all over the world, but the kind of statements being made by some leaders of Jammu and Kashmir, they do not want tourism to increase in Jammu and Kashmir.  I want to say clearly that your statements will not make any difference and J&K has received record tourists in winter this year and this growth will continue in the coming days as well. Employment and tourism are directly related in Jammu and Kashmir, but tourists do not come, so the opposition is trying to keep the youth away from employment by making such statements, that the people of Jammu and Kashmir should also know. The youth of Jammu and Kashmir who was forced by the previous rulers to go to Pakistan and abroad to become a doctor, I want to tell them that from 1947 to 2014, there were 4 medical colleges and 500 seats in Jammu and Kashmir. Today there are 9 medical colleges, 15 nursing colleges, 1100 MBBS seats and 600 paramedical service seats. 70 years investment on one hand was Rs 12000 crore and in a single year MoU for investment of Rs 12,000 crore has been done in J&K and ground breaking ceremonies of Rs 2,000 crore have also taken place.
