Amid rising intensity of yet another high intensity wave of covid-19 pandemic the rising public indifference to covid safety protocols announced by the government at the centre and as well as the governments in states and union territories against the spread of the pandemic has triggered unprecedented rise in the cases of new variant of pandemic called “Omicron” in several parts of the country. Human wisdom demands that people of Jammu & Kashmir take lessons from the bad experiences of public indifference to covid safety protocols for their own health safety and ultimately their survival as well. As fresh spurt in covid cases is not dropping below 100 mark and four Omicron cases have been already reported from Jammu division, the threat of Omicron spread with the intensity it has spread in other parts of other countries cannot be ruled out in absence of strict adherence to covid-19 safety protocols. Though police does not bother even to penalise people found travelling in passenger vehicles and private cars and moving at crowded places and markets without masks but ultimately the people themselves have not to let the cops intervene in the implementation of covid safety protocols for their own safety and survival. The crowding on the eve of New Year celebrations at several places in the twin capital cities Srinagar and Jammu just two days ago has shown that people are not bothered about the consequences of the violations of covid safety protocols amid rising threat of the spread of new variant of pandemic called “Omicron” in several parts of the country. As the health infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir is under tremendous stress after fighting back to back two high intensity covid waves, the strict adherence to covid safety protocols is the only wave to contain the ongoing fresh high wave of pandemic in Jammu & Kashmir.
To reduce the chances of further spread in the ongoing fresh high intensivity wave of pandemic in Jammu & Kashmir the containment of crowding at public places and violation of safety protocols during travels and at public places like markets is must. Even holding of public events avoidable under normal circumstances could prove detrimental for the future of the covid containment guidelines in Jammu & Kashmir .
People have to keep in mind that health experts have declared new variant of covid-19 pandemic called “Omicron” more contagious than the Delta variant and consequently it may lead to an infection surge which could be higher than the previous high intensity waves of Covid-19 pandemic. To reduce the chances of further spread in the ongoing fresh high intensivity wave of pandemic in Jammu & Kashmir the containment of crowding at public places and violation of safety protocols during travels and at public places like markets is must. Even holding of public events avoidable under normal circumstances could prove detrimental for the future of the covid containment guidelines in Jammu & Kashmir
