Shopian: A massive drive against bung cultivation was launched in Shopian Monday by the district administration on the on the directions of District Development Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Aijaz.
The anti-bung team was headed by Tehsildar Zainapora, which destroyed the bung cultivation spread over 50 kanals of land at village Mela-awra, Zainapora.
The DDC Shopian said bung and other narcotics cultivation and related activities are detrimental to the entire society, particularly to the younger generation. He stressed on creating more awareness so that the drug menace is eradicated completely from the society.
He said no stone would be left unturned in making this district free from such illegal activities and joint teams comprising concerned Naib Tehsildar, Station House Officer and Assistant Excise officer headed by respective Tehsildar have been already constituted to intensify the drive. The teams have been entrusted with the job to conduct random monitoring and mapping for the eradication of wild bhang grown along roadsides and riverbanks. They will also map timely survey and conduct destruction of bhang and bung crop in its infancy stage.
It was said the stern necessary action as per the law would be initiated against the offenders who grow, harvest, store, transport buy/sell or deal with such illegal activities.
